Chicago Roadrunners Training Program

Weekly 7 a.m. Saturday runs in Lincoln Park begin June 14th through September 6th. The meeting point is the Lincoln Park Clock Tower, located at 3700 N. Recreation Drive, which is east of Lake Shore Drive, between Irving Park and Addison. Group runs take place rain or shine.  The cost of the Roadrunners training program is $90 - which includes training manuals and T-shirts.  The training manuals and T-shirts can be picked up at any weekly training run or the kick-off session on Wednesday, June 11, from 5:30 pm through 9:00 pm (location to be announced shortly).

The 13 week Chicago Roadrunner training program will help runners, joggers and those interested in becoming more fit reach their goal in a fun, educational and injury free setting. You'll be able to use our program to get you from the couch to the finish line of The Banco Popular Chicago Half Marathon on Sunday, September 14, 2008. We will motivate and educate you, all in a supportive and fun environment.

Registration in the Chicago Roadrunners program includes a performance shirt, a 13 week training schedule, and a detailed training manual to provide information and advice. Experienced pace leaders will conduct 13 Saturday morning training sessions at the pace that is right for you, whether that's a 13 minute walk-jog or a 7:30 minute per mile pace. Other great perks include mid-week training runs and five educational clinics on topics including Training Methods and Goals, Shoe Selection, Injury Prevention, Nutrition and Race Day Strategy.

Clinic Topics (dates and times TBD):

Training Methods and Goals

Injury Prevention

Nutrition for Endurance Runners

Shoe Selection & Running Apparel

Training Run and Race Logistics

Over the past 19 years, Roadrunners training programs have helped over 25,000 runners finish their goal of improved fitness, more efficient running and walking, and crossing that finish line.

The Chicago Roadrunner program consists of four running days, one full day of rest, and two cross training days (cross training simply means including a variety of exercises in your workout). If you wish to use the cross training days as days of rest, that's fine! This is a suggested training schedule, designed for flexibility to fit into your schedule and into your fitness level.

“Like a lot of people, I started running when I was out-of-shape and starting from scratch. The Roadrunners Manual provided me the guidance, motivation and expertise to jump-start my training, which in turn positively impacted my life!”
