Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When is the application deadline?
A: Registration for the 2012 Chicago Half Marathon & 5K will close on August 26, 2012 or if the maximum combined field of 20,000 participants has been reached before the date.
Q: How do I confirm my entry to the Chicago Half Marathon?
A: All on-line registrations will be confirmed via email. If you mail your registration, you or a friend can check to see if your registration has been processed via the Confirmation tab on the main Chicago Half Marathon page, Click Here.
Q: What time does the Half Marathon start?
A: The Chicago Half Marathon starts at 7:00 a.m. CDT on September 9, 2012. The race start is Jackson Park at the intersection of Hayes & Richards.
Q: Where can I get my results for the Chicago Half Marathon?
A: Results will be posted on the Chicago Half Marathon & 5K website during the event. The official results will be posted after the race has concluded. Results from the previous year's events may also be obtained here.
Q: Where do I get my race number?
A: You can pick up your race number at Packet Pickup, located at Navy Pier. Complete pack pickup information is available under the packet pickup tab on the home page
Q: Where can I obtain merchandise?
A: Merchandise will be available on our website, at the Expo and on raceday.
Q: Where are the Aid Stations?
A: The Aid Stations are located approximately every 1.5 miles along the route and serve both water and Gatorade Endurance formula.
Q: What if I can't finish the race?
A: There will be a bus following the last participants of the race. Anyone who cannot finish, or cannot keep up with the 13 minute/mile minimum pace can ride the bus to the Rest and Recovery Area.
Q: When does the race officially end?
A: Approximately 11:00 a.m. local time.
Q: Are there pace groups?
A: Yes, there are pace groups for the following finishing times: 1:30, 1:45, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20, 2:30, 2:45.
Q: Where should I meet my family after the race?
A: Meet your friends and family in the Family Reunion Area located in the Rest & Recovery Area after the Chicago Half Marathon & 5K at Jackson Park. This area will be divided by letter of the alphabet and will feature live entertainment. Please make meeting plans prior to the start of the event.
Q: Where can I check my gear during the race?
A: Gear check is provided for all participants, and is located in Jackson Park. Please use the bag and label provided in your packet, provided to you at packet pickup.
Q: Can I defer until next year?
A: There are no refunds for the Half Marathon or 5K events. Up until the date of the Half Marathon, you may request to defer your registration until 2012 with a doctor's note to prove medical need.

Q: Can someone else pick up my packet for me?
A: Yes. If someone is picking up your packet, please go to the Packet Pickup Instructions page and download the Packet Pickup Authorization Form. Please follow the instructions on the form as this form must be notarized!
Q: Can I run in the 5K instead of the Half Marathon?
A: Your Half Marathon bib number will work in the 5K starting corrals on September 11 2011 When you pick up your packet, you will be receiving a Half Marathon bib and t-shirt. However, on race morning, simply place yourself in the 5K starting corrals.
Q: I have a friend who cannot participate in the event, can I take his/her place?
A: Each participant must have his/her own registration. In the event of an emergency, race official must have emergency contact information on hand, therefore you are NOT allowed to participate using another person's registration. There are NO exceptions to this policy.
Q: Can I get a refund?
A: There are no refunds for the Chicago Half Marathon or 5K events.
